Of course the prices will soon recover when the messianic Mr Salmond fills the Faslane base with conventional naval vessels. I imagine that there will be something of a bidding war between China and Russia for such facilities at the heart of NATO – let’s hope the hostilities stop with the bidding! (This is a wee example of droll Scottish humour, in case you are reading this in Athens or Trieste.)
I imagine the Chinese who come to run the base will be as flummoxed by the actual value in Euros or Dollars of the currency then in use in Scotland. I fancy my chances of squeezing an eye-watering amount from the incomers. At least I will be able to leave a nice nest egg to my loved ones when I finally fill my plot in the Barbour.
