I've had my problems with my local radio station as I said before, I've also been blanked by the national press when I tried, several times, to get a mention for McStorytellers, and also for independent ebook publishers.
Did you ever wonder why the national press choose to give ebooks the body-swerve when they each carry a weekly, sometimes double page, column devoted to print books and print alone? Try asking them. I wish you better luck than I've had to date. A response would be a start, a first, their high falootin' ignorance knows no bounds. Perhaps it's because I just happened to mention the fact that they almost tripped over themselves in their rush to embrace digitalisation when their own print issue sales took a dramatic slump with the advent of the digital medium. Either way, I'm still waiting for some sort of answer to my query.
Radio Scotland runs a daily 'Arts' programme, 'The Culture Show', and so far they've ignored my messages regarding the same issues as above. It's like 'Independent publisher' and 'ebook' are obscene profanities and that broadcasting them would result in prosecution. I should perhaps have inserted a few well placed asterisks in there in case the Ombudsman reads this, just to cover my back.
Getting back to local radio. I'm quite sure all local radio stations aren't as blinkered as mine seems to be. It could be that 3TFM, (I spit those words), are under orders not to encourage local authors, but I very much doubt that somehow. Still, I'm sure the church fete carries much more of a relevance to the community as a whole.
I'd very much appreciate it if all at McStorytellers/McVoices could experiment with contacting their own regional radio stations with a view to getting a mention for the groups, their books and stories, and report back on any results, favourable or otherwise.
Here's another thing. The Metro is read by hundreds of thousands of commuters daily, and would also be a valid target for such petitions, but again, I wish you better luck than I've had. If the newspapers, the local and national radio stations suddenly become inundated with requests for a mention for McStorytellers, McVoices and The McFestival, they might well sit up and take notice.....then again.....I, for one, won't be holding my breath.
