This month the story is the subject of some strange and unexplained attention. Since the beginning of October, it has been viewed well in excess of 500 times, vastly more than any other story on the site in the same period. And the number of viewers grows daily. I don’t know if many or any of them have proceeded to actually read the story; there has been no significant rise in sales of the novel, that’s for sure.
So what is going on here? Has The Unofficial Burryman gone viral for some reason? Could the interest be coming from local folk trying to find out if they (or people with an uncanny resemblance to them) have been included in the story? Or is a secret group of Freemasons and Orangemen amassing with the intention of putting out a contract on me because of the story’s strong anti-sectarian message? Or is it all just a mistake, caused by creepy people searching the Internet for references to bizarre sexual practices involving the donning of jaggy burrs from head to toe?
If you don’t care to visit Amazon for the freebie, you might consider clicking here to view that story on McStorytellers, thus increasing its virality. Only saying.
