Now don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed Bowie's music for years and I think he is a fine actor... but I am pretty incensed by the manner and the media coverage of his 'my friend wants to go out with you' second hand four words that captured the attention of everyone to the exclusion of all else 'Scotland stay with us.' Of course he's entitled to his opinion, we all are - but the manner and delivery of the message I find somewhat 'off' (I am trying to remain calm here!!) I shall give him the benefit of the doubt and see if I can find that he has any more reasoned comment to make (after all Billy Bragg had his say...) and this post will be continued...
In other words, I'm winding myself up to write something more about Celebrity status but I need some time to a) calm down and b) reflect. Then I'll give you a reasoned (?) blog on the role of celebrity in our modern world (who'd have thought that would stem out of a weekly blog on the referendum eh?)
In the meantime, if you want to get a bit of a clue as to why I'm not so keen on the notion that we should be governed by Celebrity why not read my book 'The Price of Fame' (and other short stories) The peace and love of Valentines day is long gone so why not get some grim reality - and something that's got nothing to do with the Referendum either!! Don't worry, I'm not about to sit back and get rich on all the downloads simply because I've linked my work with the name Bowie!
Let me just leave you with this to ponder on:
Celebrity = commercial success.
Is this what we want to base political opinion on?
