Happy New Year! x
A day to remember or a day to forget,
All of the presents that we get,
People spend their money on you
Just because they love you true
Families giving everywhere
So kind and warm, they love to share
Presents that are big and small
Cards hung carefully on the wall
I spent twenty pounds on things this year
Just for all the people here
Expensive, homemade, doesn't matter to me
As long as everyone has presents under the tree
Families give and families get
Gifts of all kind and thoughtful I'll bet
Clothes, shoes and lovely toys
And all the other Christmas joys
Baubles and tinsel on Christmas trees
(Don't think I could live without these)
Sing carols in church on Christmas Eve
Sadness dawns when we have to leave
A glass of milk and a warm mince pie
For Santa who'll come flying by
In our beds and dreaming deep
An excited and happy restful sleep
Santa comes in his big sleigh
Giving presents so we can play.
Slowly arriving, Christmas morning
Children run downstairs warm and yawning
Crying out with shouts of glee
For all these lovely presents are free!
Every Christmas we go out
to whatever church is round about
Then Christmas dinner
- what a winner.
After food, we're all full
In Christmas jumpers made of wool.
Next we're off to Granny's home
(I hope she gives me a new phone)
On Boxing Day with Christmas done
Spoiling all our festive fun
We have to wait another year
For next Christmas to be here
But don't forget (and keep this thought)
All the presents that for you were bought.
I did this writing in my time
Trying to get these lines to rhyme
Ended up with this poem for you
Just because I love you too.
