So first I played about with HTML but gave up trying to create a website using HTML and CSS (as I have done in the past). By the way the best ever HTML editor (HTML Kit) isn't available for a Mac. If you're using a PC and wanting to play with HTML, I recommend it.
Then I looked into other web site development tools, (imac, which you get free with a mac, isn't flexible enough), Eventually I decided to go with Weebly which this site is under, I was also registered so I could get started straight away and it was remarkably straightforward. I also registered aslightmistakeinthecode.com.
I've taken out the teasers I had here and organised them better in there, I've also put up the first 20% of my book up there, so if you're worried about making the investment, you can get a feel for it first.
So have a look and if there's any mistakes or anything else you want to see then let me know.
By putting up the start of my book, it got me to thinking, one of the criticisms is that there is not enough action at the beginning. It is too slow.
My reaction is, that the story is part 'road movie' two characters go off together, but to do that you have to show a developing level of trust, and Janol has to have enough reasons to go off with Onnil, so he has to get to know her. Then when they leave, they're in civilised lands, nothing happens. But I counter with, you can't have pterodactyls attack or zombie hoards straight away. * Nothing exciting would happen until they get into the wilderness.
But then you could just miss things out and I suppose I could say 'two weeks into the journey ...' but I prefer to show the passage of time with things that aren't full-on action happening but involve character development and clues to what is happening.
*: There are no zombies in the book or any of the sequels, there are pterodactyls, but they don't attack, they don't do much really but fly past.
