1. We don't need no celebrity endorsemnts.
I’ve been getting heartily fed up of everyone from J K Rowling to Bob Geldof telling me that we should ‘stay’ in the Union. But perhaps the straw that broke the camel’s back for me was Sean Lennon (John’s son) telling me that we should stay in the Union because ‘Scotland is beautiful.’ He went on to say “Scotland please don’t leave england! You’re too pretty!” on Instagram, which I believe he has since deleted. Okay, we all say and do things we regret, but with a fortnight to go to the Referendum it seems to me that unless people have something sensible to add to the debate they would be better to keep their own counsel!
We need better reasons to stay or leave than this. And a higher level of understanding of the issues. It’s not hard to find them. I’m afraid I’m tired of all the times I’ve heard people say ‘I need to know more’ as if expecting someone to come and personally explain it to them (although I know plenty of Yesser’s who are more than happy to give up their time to do this right now).
Wake up, people, it’s time to FIND OUT for yourself. It’s not that hard. Unless, perhaps, you don’t know how to make a choice anymore because your life is completely dominated by celebrity endorsement and you can do nothing unless a celebrity tells you what to do, be, think.
What worries me even more is the fact that ‘celebrities’ think that they have a right to tell us what to think. I don’t care what they think; as individuals (with or without a vote in the matter) what they think and do is their own affair. BUT – why should they try and persuade me to align with their views? Ah, that’s a story for another day.
